Renew Your License
It is required by the state that all brokers and salesperson, who have renewed their license at least once, to complete state approved continuing education to renew or activate their license. At NVRE University, we offer the required continuing education for Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. These classes are only offered online
Virginia Continuing Education Requirements
Real Estate Agents must complete 16 hours of continuing education to renew their license. Of these 16 hours, the real estate agent must take:
- Three Hours (3) in Ethics & Standards of Conduct
- Two Hours (2) in Fair Housing
- One Hour (1) in Legal Updates and Emerging Trends
- One Hour (1) in Real Estate Agency
- One Hour (1) in Real Estate Contracts
The remaining 8 hours may be in Real Estate related subjects(electives) or in the required continuing education subjects already referenced. These continuing education requirements also apply to those that want to activate their license.

Maryland Continuing Education Requirements
Real Estate Agents must complete 15 hours of continuing education to renew their license. Of these 15 hours, the real estate agent must take:
- Three Hours (3) in Legislative
- Three Hours (3) in Brokerage Relationship and Disclosures
- Three Hours (3) in Ethics
- One and Half Hours (1.5) in Fair Housing
The remaining 4.5 hours may be in Real Estate related subjects(electives)

What Every Licensee Should Know About Real Estate Continuing Education
Washington D.C Continuing Education Requirements
Real Estate Agents must complete 15 hours of continuing education to renew their license. Of these 15 hours, the real estate agent must take:
- Three Hours (3) in D.C Fair Housing and Predatory Lending
- Three Hours (3) in D.C Ethics
- Three Hours in D.C Legislative Update and Landlord-Tenant Rights
The remaining 6 hours may be in Real Estate related subjects (electives)
