NVRE University’s training program is a rigorous, comprehensive course that covers all the standards for home inspection.
NVRE University will train you to become a certified home inspector. After your training, you’ll be qualified to provide home inspections for clients. You’ll have the education and certification needed to pass the state licensing exam.
The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the practice of home inspection. You will find straightforward descriptions of property structure, grounds, and systems. The students will learn the functionality of every part of the building as well as the functionality of the different systems.
Upon graduation, the students will be able to identify the different failures and defects at the property and they will be able to provide the client with the proper recommendations for repair and/or maintenance. Fundamentals of Home Inspection is a great introductory course that offers everything you’ll need to meet the state requirements to become a licensed home inspector. It features detailed illustrations, clear explanations, and a quantity and quality of information unequaled anywhere.

Ride-Along Information for VA Inspectors

Licensing Requirements:
Applicants for licensure are required to complete Board approved Pre-Licensing Courses and obtain Field Training Experience:
Every applicant for an individual home inspector license shall have the following qualifications:
The applicant shall be at least 18 years old.
The applicant shall meet the one of the following educational and experience requirements:
Completed 35 contact hours of board-approved pre-license education and have completed a minimum of 100 home inspections prior to 7/1/2017;
Completed 35 contact hours of board-approved pre-license education and have completed a minimum of 50 home inspections under the direct supervision of a home inspector;
Completed 70 contact hours of board-approved pre-license education and have completed a minimum of 50 home inspections;
Completed 70 contact hours of board-approved contact hours and have completed a minimum of 25 home inspections under the direct supervision of a home inspector; or
have verification of 10 years’ experience as a home inspector prior to July 1, 2017, with a minimum of 250 home inspections completed during such time period.

Maryland Home Inspection State Regulations
Licensing Requirements:
All original home inspector licenses are valid for two years commencing on the effective date that appears on the license. All renewals are issued on a two year cycle when renewed before their expiration date.
Applying for an Home Inspector License
- Complete the application and remit photocopies of course certificates reflecting your completion of 72 hours of an on-site classroom-based training course approved by the Commission;
- Provide evidence of having obtained a high school diploma or its equivalent;
- Provide an examination score report verifying successful completion of the National Home Inspector Examination; and
- Remit a non-refundable application review fee in the amount of $50.
